As the seasons change and temperatures rise, what can we do to keep our energy bills low?
This is a great question as we head into the hot summer months. First, if your thermostat is older than 10 years it probably should be replaced. Consider purchasing a programmable thermostat to keep your home comfortable day and night. For example, if you are not home during the day, set the air-conditioner for a higher temperature, and program cooler an hour before you arrive each evening. When you leave for your summer holiday, you can also program your thermostat for a higher temperature
Draw blinds and curtains on windows facing the sun during the day. This reduces the need for your air conditioner to fight the heating rays of the sun. Inspect all exterior doors in the home for being properly sealed. Weather stripping and door sweeps wear out and need to be replaced every few years. Is it time? These are all straightforward ideas that most homeowner can do themselves to better manage their energy bills.
