Questions About Drywall Repair Services? We've Answered Them!
Did you open the door a little too quickly, and the handle flew through the wall? Or maybe your bathroom has improper ventilation and you've noticed your drywall is a bit spongy?
Although it has numerous benefits—including being very lightweight, easy to install, and fire resistant—one serious drawback is that this material is easily damaged. From regular wear and accidents to water damage and cracks from settling homes, as a homeowner, you'll likely need to hire drywall repair services at least once (but likely more).
Not to mention, there are many occasions when you may need new sheets installed. For instance, if a pipe bursts in your wall and leaves a trail of sodden plasterboard in its wake, or if you're renovating. Also, one of the most important steps in finishing a basement is installing drywall.
When you find yourself needing a drywall repairman, it's helpful to have an idea of what you can expect from the service. Any time you have work done in your home, you should know as much as you can so you feel empowered and confident in the work that's getting done. With that goal in mind, the experts at Mr. Handyman of Easton, Bethlehem, Nazareth, Allentown, and the Lehigh Valley have put together this guide. In it you'll find all your drywall repair service questions answered—so keep reading!

Does Wet Drywall Always Need to Be Replaced?
The short answer is yes. The long answer is yes, because drywall happens to be a very porous material. While there are some kinds that are mold and mildew-resistant, most varieties found in American homes are your standard plasterboard (also known as Sheetrock, a brand name).
When the plasterboard gets wet, it creates an ideal environment for mold and mildew to spore. Because this material is porous, it's difficult to clean and dry thoroughly enough to prevent the spores from spreading. Also, it's made out of two sheets of paper that sandwich a lining of gypsum. When wet, plasterboard starts to deteriorate—as any paper material would.
How Long Will the Job Take?
Usually, a drywall patch takes only one to two hours to complete, although the joint compound needs to dry for up to 24 hours. It also can't be painted until dry, but the paint job should likewise only take a few hours.
Drywall replacement and installation do take longer, depending on what you need to be done. For instance, finishing a basement with drywall could take up to a week.
